What suite/DAW/etc do you use for your tunes? What do you like about it? Do you have experience on others as well?

Personally, I've messed around with Reason in the past, but I never could get down with the rack metaphor. I also had a copy of Cubase 3 SX a while back, and while it was sweet it seems that cubase is incredibly complicated.

I'm curious what everyone else uses though. Discuss!

I wouldn't consider myself a pro producer, but I use FL Studio 8. I've dabbled with a few other DAWs but always end up crawling back :| to FL.

I've been thinking about trying Renoise.

You shouldn't be to terribly considered about what you make your tunes in, it doesn't really matter per-say. The only 'major' difference I've noticed between different DAWs is the playlist style layout that Cubase and FL have vs. the modern tracker layout that Renoise has.

I'm thinking about getting Cubase 5 Educational edition, do you know if there are any major differences between that and Cubase 5 or is it just the price/licensing that's different? I looked on their site but didn't find any info on it except pricing.

i like FL studio as well, for someone like me who has no idea wtf they're doing, it's has the easiest interface. plus the FL homepage has tons of info and tutorials, well that and when you buy the full release you get updates for life.

I use Renoise, but just gettin started with it. Really wanna learn how to make my own samples and get more instruments and vocals. Anyone else use it? Can I find stuff on the web for it? Or should I not waste my time and get FL instead :D

Basically any VST from NI is rock solid, NI Massive is amazing but also pretty pricely.

There are tons of free VSTS out there to like http://www.greenoak.com/crystal/

Googleing "Free VSTs" will get you tons too.

I recommend getting all of these -> http://www.tweakbench.com/
They're nice and simple but I <3 them.

Hmm what else...
well I'm sure with some Googling you can find yourself some free ones, you'll soon find that getting samples is more difficult than finding VSTs.

Also nice setup you got there IndikuT ;)

HypeMonkey: a little hint from a musican to another: try to read some things about musical theory. It makes it easier later to no only know the difference between major and minor, but also about chord circles (i dont know, if that is the real translation) and how everything get's together.
Ah and try to get some piano lessons, helps a lot :)

Good luck

I use Reason Rewired with Logic. but I agree with Calculon, you've got to find whatever you feel most comfortable with.

Reason gets used for pretty much the entire tune, and then I use all of Logic's processing to tidy up the sound

What's up everyone? I just signed up and saw this thread. I use FL Studio 8.5XXL and I use a MV 8800. As far as vst's and vsti's, I usually visit KVR.com. They have a bunch of free stuff.

Cubase Studio 4

Never liked Reason because it doesn't support plug-ins.

Thanks!! I was always in music in skewl n my mom had me take lessons back in the day. I'm not a stranger to it, just finally trying to take the steps to get into producing dnb. It's like an itch i've finally got around to scratchin :D (thanks to my buddy Ken to introducin me to BASSDRIVE... wherever he is out there) I love dnb, liquid, progressive trance, etc... I'm still new to producing, so thanks to everyone's help!!! Renoise is my new addiction... :D Maybe i'll have a track to post soon :P
